Umrao Jaan Ada is an Urdu novel written by Mirza Hadi Ruswa, the nephew of the founder of the Jamia Millia Islamia Philosophy College, Gilani. It was first published in 1899. It is considered to be one of the first Urdu novels. So it may appear that the story would be the same as any other fiction novel, but it is not. The characters are very well defined. The story is quite different from the usual Urdu stories.
