He belonged to the Kundan, a prominent branch of the Awan tribe. According to the authentic records, it is proved that the family of Awan family goes back to Hazrat Ali Karamullah Rabiya. The members of the Kandan family used to live together in Khushab. This place is called Mahalla Kandanwala. In 1729, Muhammad Jamal, a member of this tribe, settled here.
