Ali Abbas Jalalpuri: A Pioneer of Urdu Literature

Ali Abbas Jalalpuri was a Pakistani Urdu writer, poet, and philosopher. He was born in Jalalpur Sharif, District Jehlum, Punjab, British India, on October 19, 1914. He received his education from the Government College University, Lahore, where he studied philosophy and English literature. After graduating, he worked as a teacher and a journalist. He also served as the president of the Pakistan Tehreek Khird Afrozi, a movement that promoted intellectual and cultural development in Pakistan.

Jalalpuri was a prolific writer and produced a wide range of works, including novels, short stories, essays, poems, and plays. His most famous works include the novels Riwayat-e-Tamadun-e-Qadim (The History of Ancient Civilization), Aina-e-Zindagi (The Mirror of Life), and Dilruba (The Beloved). He also wrote a number of philosophical treatises, including Ilm-e-Kalam (The Science of Poetry) and Falsafa-e-Hayat (The Philosophy of Life).

Jalalpuri’s work is characterized by its deep insights into human nature and its profound understanding of the human condition. He was a master of Urdu prose and his writing is both elegant and powerful. He was also a gifted poet and his poems are full of beauty and emotion.

Jalalpuri died on December 6, 1998, in Lahore, Pakistan. He is considered one of the most important Urdu writers of the 20th century.
